And here I thought I was so clever the first time I saw a representation of “Doggerland”, the Neolithic plain that now lies underneath the North Sea and thought, “I wonder if Tolkien was inspired by this?” — especially since by all accounts evidence that the area was inhabibited in prehistoric times first surfaced in 1931. Anyway, here’s a graphic from the Channel 4 special, “Britain’s Drowned World” that tries to reconstruct the scene.
